Montclair Public Library Foundation receives grant from The Montclair Foundation to support its Open Book/Open Mind author conversation series.

The Montclair Public Library Foundation (MPLF) recently received a $1,000 grant from The Montclair Foundation. The grant will be used to help further the Library’s mission of providing lifelong learning to residents of Montclair and surrounding areas by supporting its popular Open Book/Open Mind author conversation series.

“We are deeply grateful to The Montclair Foundation for its continuing support of our Open Book/Open Mind series” said Library Director Peter Coyl. “It’s a distinctive program that helps Montclair residents stay informed about and engaged in today’s important issues.”

Launched in 2015, the Open Book/Open Mind series brings top writers and thinkers to the Montclair community. The series curates conversations with thought leaders and authors who engage both the mind and spirit of our audiences. To date, 38 conversations have been presented that have attracted nearly 6,000 attendees. Recent speakers included celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, best-selling novelist Julia Alvarez, and Edward Tenner discussing The Efficiency Paradox.

In 2018, the Library formed an Open Book/Open Mind Advisory Board with Montclair residents involved in publishing and journalism who provide suggestions and guidance on potential speakers for the program.
