Millions decided they don't owe anything to their fellow human beings, even a vaccination that is proven to be safe. If it weren't safe and saved even one life, I'd take it.
In the real world, our own storyline has pivoted to place us on the cusp of extinction. It's not just the pandemic that is going to wipe out our species; it's the selfishness. Then look around at the extinction of new plants and animals that happen weekly, the melting glaciers, and global warming, and you will see the pattern of our demise.
I used to love reading books about a future where humanity is dying out, because of a virus, an alien invasion, or some other kind of global event. Today, we are suffering from simultaneous catastrophic events due to Covid-19, the refusal of many millions not to safeguard their own health or that of fellow human beings, and global warming.
Now, I can't even look at those plotlines, because we are living it in real-time. The villain threatening the entire human species, however, is the unthinkable: stubborn people who refuse to get vaccinated due to their own inflated feelings of self-worth.
If you are not vaccinated, I have a big question: Why don't you value other people's lives as much as you protect your own body's reaction to a vaccine? The vaccine, as we all know by now, does not kill you. So what fear is so great you won't just do it for the entire human race?
My own vaccination was something I knew I had to do, no matter what the side effects. To me, the only moral decision I could make when it came to taking a new vaccine to protect myself and others from Covid-19 was obvious: I don't want to be responsible for anyone's death. I was not happy about getting the vaccine but as a fellow human being, I knew it was my ethical duty to protect others, even if the shot made me sick. Of course, I would do it!
Just in the US, over 700,000 human beings - just like you and me - are dead from this awful virus. Worldwide we hit 4.55 million this week, and that number is escalating. In America, the "home of the brave," only 56 percent of the population took the vaccine, hoping to protect themselves, their loved ones, and strangers who are most vulnerable.
Over 61,000 deaths in the US from Covid-19 were in people under the age of sixty, with ten times the number of deaths occurring in those unvaccinated.
America stands near the very top of the list of deaths by country due to Covid-19, which shows the insanity here as the millions of Americans who refuse to get the vaccine are dying off in droves.
Delta is just one variant of this vicious virus, and even with your vaccination if you are obese or overweight, and you get the illness, the data shows something frightening: 78 percent of all deaths in Covid occurred in those who are obese or overweight.
Turns out that all the dystopian movies and books about the end of mankind were not fiction.
And, because the unvaccinated refuse to get a vaccine, the most vulnerable of our population including anyone with cancer, auto-immune disease, and even living healthfully at an older age, can catch it for you and die.

As rational, ethical human beings, all we can do is during these times of our species and planet's decline is to still attempt to cure disease, create groundbreaking science-based vaccines, and remember that it's better to live with a moral backbone even during a losing war.
If you have the resources, it's time to start planning for a new world with survivors who can start again - just like in all those old books and movies. But please: don't include the narcissists. We just can't afford to carry them on our backs anymore.
